SEVERE WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:

PARENT PORTAL UP AND RUNNING:

UNI students now have the ability to grant online access to their records including grades, u-bill and class schedule. Located on the UNI Parents Web page, the new Parent Portal is a password-protected, third-party-access site. Due to federal and state law, only you can grant access to your information and what information will be shared. To set up access, visit MyUNIverse, "My Personal Records" and click on "Create Third Party Accounts."

NEW E-MAIL SYSTEM TO BE IMPLEMENTED BETWEEN SEMESTERS:

UNI will migrate to a new e-mail system, Collaboration Suite, between the fall 2006 and spring 2007 semesters. Campus e-mail will be unavailable beginning at noon on Dec. 31 through the afternoon of Jan. 1. E-mail received during the conversion will be delivered once the new system is up and running. This new system will provide all UNI faculty, staff, students and emeritus employees with improved e-mail capabilities, and e-mail quotas will increase for students. SABIN HALL LOST AND FOUND:

A number of items have been turned in to the Sabin Hall lost and found this semester -- eyeglasses, coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, car keys and miscellaneous items. These items can be reclaimed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Dean's Office, 117 Sabin Hall, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m and 5 p.m.

COLLECTION FOR THE WOMEN'S SHELTER:

There will be a collection for the Women's Shelter on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the tables in Maucker Union. Donate toilettries and cash. Sponsored by the SAVE Forum Actors.

PHOTOCOPY PAYMENT OPTIONS:

The library is planning to modify the current payment options offered for public photocopy machines. If you currently have money on your UNI ID card, you can either spend it before we replace the towers or come to the Circulation desk for a refund. NEW STUDENT ORGANIZATION 'CATS':

LEARN PRACTICAL FRENCH:

UNI SPRING CONCERT BAND SIGN UP:

The UNI Spring Concert Band is open to all students. No audition required. It's for students who have previous experience playing in a concert band, either in high school or college. Music education majors are invited to participate on their primary or secondary instrument. The UNI Spring Concert Band meets twice a month, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday evenings, in Russell Hall 60. The first rehearsal is Jan. 18. SUMMER CAPSTONE IN POLAND:

A meeting about the Summer Capstone and Holocaust Program in Poland will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, SRL 212. UNI professors teaching the program will discuss this opportunity and respond to questions. Past participants will be available to talk about their experiences. Yana Cornish from the Study Abroad Center will discuss program registration, travel and more.

NATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE:

Attend a National Student Exchange Informational meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in the Maucker Union State College Room. Learn how you can attend another school within the United States and Canada while paying UNI tuition. You must have a 2.75 UNI and cumulative GPA and between 30 and 85 credit hours to qualify.

PANTHER ATHLETICS:

The Panther men's basketball team will play at Iowa on Dec. 5 at 7:05 p.m. in Iowa City. UNI returns home to host UMKC on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7:05 p.m. in McLeod Center.

The UNI women's basketball team hosts the defending national champion and No. 1 team in the country, Maryland, in McLeod Center at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

KUNI'S LIVE FROM STUDIO ONE:

Michael Young, a finger-style guitarist who plays both the six- and twelve-string guitar, will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in KUNI's third floor studios in the CAC. Admission is $3 at the door, free for children under 12.

GUEST ARTISTS RECITAL:

Tim Lane, flute and Nimji Kim, piano, will present the music of Schwanter, Baker, Messiaen and others at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at GBPAC Davis Hall. Free.

CHIMES OF CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY CONCERT:

ARTIST'S LECTURE:

New York artist Josh Smith will discuss his work at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, in KAB 111. Smith has exhibited in London, Zurich, Brussels, San Francisco and New York. The lecture is free and open to the public.

UNDERGRAD SCIENCE EDUCATION REFORM SPEAKER SERIES:

Thomas Greenbowe, professor of chemistry and coordinator of general chemistry, ISU, will discuss "Why Reform Undergraduate Science Teaching?" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Lantz Auditorium, 137 McCollum Science Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.

RUSSIAN FILM: 'AELITA QUEEN OF MARS':

The Russian Club will show “Aelita Queen of Mars” (Aelita) (1924) at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 in Seerley 115. Directed by Yakov Protazanov and considered the first Soviet science fiction film, the movie is set at the beginning of the New Economic Policy (NEP) in December 1921.

M.A. AND B.F.A. GROUP EXHIBITION:

The UNI Gallery of Art will present "M.A. Thesis Exhibition and B.F.A. Group Exhibition," from Thursday, Dec. 7, through Saturday, Dec. 16. An opening reception will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. The exhibition will feature the following artists: Emily Kist (emphasis in painting); Brandon Fiagle (emphasis in graphic design); Aypryl L. Pippert (emphasis in performance art); and Taylor Powell (emphasis in printmaking). The exhibitions and reception are free and open to the public. GOLD CHEER SQUAD TRYOUTS:

The UNI Cheer Squad will conduct open tryouts on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for the Cheer Gold Squad. The final tryout session will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. This squad performs at UNI Women's Basketball games. All tryouts will take place in the West Gym wrestling room. RUSSIAN CLUB TO SHOW 'TYCOON':

The Russian Club will show “Tycoon” (Oligarkh) (2002) at 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in Seerley 115. Directed by Pavel Lungin. During the Gorbachev years, Platon Makovski and his four buddies are university students who jump on the private capitalism movement. Twenty years later Platon is the richest man in Russia, having sacrificed his friends to get to the top. His cynical rise is followed by a brutal fall.

BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY AT THE GBPAC:

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's Wild and Swingin' Holiday Party will be rockin' at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16, in the GBPAC. Hit the dance floor with someone special at this one-of-a-kind holiday event. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy merges hip swing-band sounds with traditional holiday rock.
