Demand is greatest on Mondays and tails off during the week. Users of Thunderbird will notice that sending and deleting messages takes much longer than normal. When this occurs, minimize these windows and continue to work normally. Mailman users have experienced many Mondays where performance is intolerable. ITS has made several configuration modifications to the existing e-mail system with no noticeable improvements and will continue to investigate further modifications. We are also investigating new solutions that will improve e-mail performance. In the meantime, users should schedule their e-mail use around peak loads.
