ITS has discontinued the social security number option for logging into Web-based self-service applications. Students: Use your university ID (your UID, printed on the front side of your uCard) or your username (the part of your email address preceding the @uni.edu) as your login.
The Eighth Annual UNI Jump Start Orientation Program is scheduled for Aug. 14 - 19. The Program assists ethnically diverse students in making a smooth transition to UNI. Help us welcome the Jump Start participants. For more information contact the Office of Admissions, 3-2281.
All graduate students are invited to attend a Graduate Student Orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 3-5 p.m. in Maucker Union Central Ballroom A. The orientation, co-sponsored by the Graduate College and Graduate Student Advisory Board, will feature a graduate student panel, an overview of student services, and informational tables. Refreshments will be served.
The UNI Counseling Center and the Office of Disability Services have moved to the upper level of the new Student Health Center on 23rd Street. Enter the Student Health Center on the east side of the building and take the stairs or the elevator on the right. Call 3-2676 for information.
Essentials in Maucker Union will be open the week of August 15, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Enjoy a cold beverage, snack, ice cream novelty, popcorn, and more.
The Visitor Information Center, located at the University Avenue entrance to campus, will reopen Monday, Aug. 15. The center will be staffed with a combination of students and staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Hours may be extended in the future if use demands. The online calendar will be the main source of information for campus visitors, so it's important for all campus departments to list events at that site. The phone number at the Visitor Information Center is 3-7628. The VIC is a collaborative project of University Events Coordination, Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Department of Residence, Office of Admissions and University Marketing & Public Relations. Volunteers are needed to assist the Muscular Dystrophy Association with a one-day event, Thursday, Aug. 25, 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. The Lock-Up will raise money for families in NE Iowa supported by MDA. Volunteer opportunities include welcoming, checking-in, taking mugshots, checking-out and processing pledges. Volunteer for any amount of time throughout the day. Interested in volunteering and serving your community? The UNI Circle K will meet at 9 p.m. every Monday this semester starting Aug. 29, in the College Eye Room in the basement of the Maucker Union. Circle K is an organization sponsored by Kiwanis International focused on service, leadership, and fellowship. All students are welcome. MARK DVORAK, will perform Monday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. in KUNI's third floor studios in the Communication Arts Center. His roots are in Chicago but since 1981, he's been criss-crossing the country performing, teaching and learning all the while. He's visited big cities where his concerts and recordings have been hailed as "a refreshing portrait of the living folk tradition." Admission is $3, free for kids under 12.

Plan to attend the sixth annual Convocation ceremony Sunday, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. in the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. This traditional event honors the beginning of the academic year and sets a tone of dedication to education by both students and faculty.
