NEWS 

EMERGENCY SIREN:
The Blackhawk County Emergency Management Agency will conduct a test of the outdoor early warning siren system on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. One sound is used for the test - a steady wail lasting for three minutes. If severe weather conditions are present, the test will be canceled to avoid confusion in the event there may be a need for an actual warning.

VOLUNTEER FAIR:
Wednesday, Sept. 8, 11 a.m. -2 p.m., Maucker Union Ballroom. Meet with some 65 organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, YMCA, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Hearst Center for the Arts and many more. One-time or semester-long commitments. OPEN VOLLEYBALL TRYOUT:
The Women's Volleyball team is hosting an open tryout Monday, Aug. 30 in the West Gym at 5:30 p.m. The tryout will last approximately one hour.

FALL PLANT SALE:
A fall plant sale will take place Thursday, Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. in the north entrance lobby of the UNI Biology Botanical Center. Prices range from $2-$10 for assorted blooming tropicals, cacti/succulents, fall bulbs and hanging baskets.

ANTI-VIRUS/ANTI-SPAM PROTECTION FOR UNI E-MAIL ACCOUNTS:
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 24, UNI Information Tecnology Services (ITS), will implement an anti-virus/anti-spam appliance. Inbound mail identified as containing a virus will automatically be deleted. Inbound mail that is identified by the appliance to likely be spam will be diverted to a quarantine area. You will receive a daily summary(ies) of quarantined messages with the capability to release any message you wish to receive and a link to a Web page to manage your quarantined messages. APPOINTMENT NEEDED AT HEALTH CLINIC:
The Student Health Clinic has relocated to first floor Dancer (on the sky walk) for this year while the building is under construction. Due to the condensed space - it is necessary to call for an appointment in order to help reduce waiting times. Hours this year are as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

PANTHER SHUTTLE:

In
addition to the Panther Shuttle, which begins running today, Met-Transit will allow UNI students with their u-card to ride the Purple/nine route for free. This service will last for the first two weeks of school. After that the service will cost $0.75 per ride.

RENAMING THE FORMER STUDENT SERVICES CENTER:
The former Student Services Center, located at 1116 W. 23rd St., has been renamed East Bartlett Hall. Student services functions are located in Gilchrist Hall. The three letter designation for the building will remain SSC.

The UNI football team begins its 2004 season at Iowa State this weekend. The Panthers are ranked sixth in the final preseason I-AA poll by The Sports Network.
