ALL CAMPUS MEETING: President Koob has scheduled an all-campus meeting at 3:30 p.m. on Mon., April 15 in the Lang Hall Auditorium. The purpose of this meeting is to put the budget cuts for FY '02 into context and discuss the likely impact on the university. The meeting will be simulcast on closed-circuit UNI-TV on channels 21 & 22 and live on the web at: http://www.uni.edu/livemedia. The free RealPlayer is required to view the webcast. SAFETY ON CAMPUS: The Department of Public Safety recently received a report of a suspicious male making physical contact with a female student on campus. Earlier this year, a female student was sexually assaulted on campus. The department reminds all university community members to think "safety first."

Safety Tips:
Travel in groups when possible.
Use the university's lighted walkways.
Request an escort when you have to walk alone at night.
Report suspicious persons to public safety.
Lock your car doors when driving.
"This is a very safe campus," noted David Zarifis, director of public safety. "But that doesn't mean we should take that safety for granted. We all have to take responsibility for keeping ourselves safe."

VOLUNTEER USHERS NEEDED: Theatre UNI is seeking volunteers to usher performances of the Tony Award winning drama "Angels in America, Part 1: Millenium Approaches" in the Strayer-Wood Theatre, April 18-20 and 25-28. FAMILIES NEEDED FOR OVERNIGHT HOMESTAY: UNI's Culture and Intensive English Program will host 20 college students from Japan for a 4-week language program. As part of their stay, the students spend one night in the home of an Amercian family. Families are asked to simply interact with with the students. Each family is asked to host 2 students. In the past, this has been a positive experience for both the hosts and the students. The date this year is July 27th. Interest folks should contact Phil Plourde, 3-6909 or June Hershberger, 3-2182.

BECOMING A PARENT: Thurs., April 18, 3:30-5 p.m., Counseling Center. The experience of becoming a parent can be overwhelming. This workshop will focus on how to deal with these new experiences and how to balance various roles when becoming a parent. NATIONAL ALCOHOL SCREENING DAY: National Alcohol Screening Day will be held on Thurs., April 18 from 4-5 p.m. in WRC 103. Participants will view a short video highlighting distinctions among alcohol use, abuse and dependency. They may then complete a brief questionnaire about their drinking habits and review the results privately with a mental health professional. Educational and counseling referrals will be provided when appropriate. The screening is anonymous and free-of-charge.

NEW HONORARY SOCIETY: On Sat., April 20, a chapter of the computer science honorary society Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) will be formally installed at UNI. UPE is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) and is the first and only honor society in the computing sciences.
The installation ceremony will be conducted by Dr. James R. Comer, Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, Texas.

PRESENTATION BY DESIGNER DAN NEMTEANU: Theatre UNI will host a presentation and discussion by scenic and costume designer Dan Nemteanu Sun., April 21, at 2 p.m. at the Strayer-Wood Theatre.
Born in Romania, Nemteanu has worked as a designer since 1956 in Romania, Israel, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and the United States, where he has been an associate professor at the University of Iowa since 1986.
The event is free and open to the public.

FUNDRAISER FOR KENYAN VILLAGE: Randy Mercer, a professor of Biology at UNI, invites you to a fund raiser for Kithyoko Village Polytechnic, Kenya, where he was a U.S. Peace Corps teacher. The event is cosponsored by the UNI International Student Association (ISA). The fund raiser will compliment a Harambee fund raiser in Kithyoko; all funds will go toward technical training of Kenyan young people. Join us for traditional foods, slides, music and crafts. Dr. James is a professor at Brown University and speciializes in African-American social and political thought, black feminist thought, critical race theory, urban politics and the prison industrial complex. ORCHESIS ANNUAL DANCE GALA: The UNI Orchesis Dance Company will present their Annual Dance Gala on Saturday April 27th at 7:30 PM and Sunday April 28th at 2:00 PM in the GBPAC Great Hall.
