Join the Carnaval! Feathered masks, shimmering beads and a spectacular musical lineup bring a heart-racing thrill and the Carnaval parade spirit to the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center and the newly renovated Russell Hall!

This year's Scholarship Benefit Concert will be unlike any you’ve seen before! We’ll begin with the concert in the Great Hall at the GBPAC, then travel to Russell Hall for a post-show reception, featuring thrilling performances in three brand new performance spaces. You won’t want to miss this premiere event.
Concert Performers
Concert performers on Friday night:
Outstanding alumna and world-renowned opera sensation Sheri Greenawald, soprano, will return to her alma mater to perform as featured soloist with the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra. Career highlights for Sheri Greenawald have included Jenny Smith in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahogonny at the Metropolitan Opera, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with the Bayerische Staatsoper and Mimì in La bohème for the Washington Opera. Along with combined choirs (UNI Singers, Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers), the orchestra will also perform Carl Orff’s lavish “Carmina Burana.”
Stellar trombonist and Iowa native Nick Lane will be another outstanding featured performer. Lane, a Los Angeles based performer, has shared the stage with Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart, the Who, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Chicago.
The Wind Symphony will perform the works of Samuel Hazo and Leroy Anderson, featuring faculty artist Randy Grabowski.
The Northern Iowa Flute Choir will perform Ian Clarke’s innovative piece “Within…”Stunning faculty pianists Sean Botkin and Genadi Zagor will both offer solo performances as well as a piano four hands piece that will leave audiences breathless.
Post-concert reception music will feature: Jazz Band One, Randy Hogancamp and his students on Taiko Drums, the Northwind Quintet, the Tuba Quartet, the UNI Opera Ensemble and the Chamber Singers.Concert performers on Saturday night:
The UNI Faculty String Quartet will be joined by guest pianist Matt Bengtson on Franck’s “Piano Quintet.” Bengston, a Harvard University and Peabody Conservatory trained artist, has made several national appearances, including a performance with Joshua Bell on NPR.
Sheri Greenawald will make her second appearance of the weekend on Saturday night, performing with Emeritus pianist Marleta Matheson.
Faculty artist trio Randy Grabowski, trumpet, Chris Buckholz, trombone, and Bob Washut, piano, will perform.
UNI Jazz Band alumni will return to the School of Music and perform together in the brand new Bengtson Auditorium. Featuring both past and current UNI Jazz Band members, the ensembles will include members from all across the country.
