Northern Iowa Junior Orchestra Here is information regarding the NIJO 2009-2010 season. FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 6 – 8* NIJO auditions will be held in September at Russell Hall at UNI, date to be announced. All prospective and former members of NIJO must audition. All will be notified in person or by phone of the results after auditions have been completed or at the time of their audition. An alternate audition time can be arranged. NIJO performs one local concert in the spring and for several schools on a one-day spring tour. Returning Music Director is Tom Schilke, former Hoover Middle School Orchestra Director. *Exceptional 5th graders may also audition. Level: violin -- Suzuki Book 4, Vivaldi (exceptions are made in special circumstances) other instruments--Suzuki book 3 Rehearsals for this orchestra for spring semester will be held from Fridays 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Russell Hall 111 unless otherwise noted. FALL--Oct. 2, Nov. 6, Dec. 4SPRING-- Weekly rehearsals will be every Friday beginning January 8 except March 19 . Most rehearsals will take place in Russell Hall (111-Graham Hall) Tour: tentatively, April 14, 2010 Concert: Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 6:00 in Davis Hall, GBPAC Payment of $125 annual fee (payable to UNI Suzuki) will be due at the first rehearsal. AUDITION: Auditions will be held at Russell Hall in Septmeber. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early and bring the audition form with you. Please print off the audition form and bring it with you to your audition. If a first time auditioner, please have your current individual lesson teacher sign the form. Limited space is available for warm-ups. You will be asked to play a prepared solo and G and Bb scales (3 octaves for violin, 2 octave for viola, cello and bass). You will also be asked to sight read. Accompanists are not needed for this audition. Please call Cathy Craig at 266-9283 for an audition time. SCHOOL ORCHESTRA MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED UNLESS CIRCUMSTANCES REQUIRE SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS OF THE NIJO DIRECTOR. SUBMIT DETAILS ON THE BACK OF THE FORM. Oct. 1, 2009 ANNOUNCEMENT:Our first rehearsal will be on Friday, Oct. 2 in room 111 (Graham Hall) at Russell Hall from 5:00 - 7:00. This room is located in the SE corner of the building with its entrance in the far corner of the main lobby. Rehearsal starts at 5:00 with announcements made at the beginning. If you are late, you'll miss the announcements and your tuning will delay or interrupt the rehearsal. Cello students, bring your rock stops. The floor is slippery!!!! All students --BRING YOUR PENCILS! Mar 26 Rachel April 2 Erika April 9 Esther April 10 (special Sat. rehearsal) Kailey S April 14 (tour) Ariana, Brady, Sarah, Megan April 16 Alice If your name doesn't appear on the list, we'll contact you in case one of the above cannot bring treats on their assigned day. You will receive an email reminder the week of your turn. Plan to bring enough for 3 dozen hungry NIJOians. Please bring an option for our no nuts/peanuts or no chocolate students. Treat providers are responsible for cleaning up any treat mess (packaging, crumbs, spills, etc.) Treats can be anything you think your fellow NIJOians would enjoy such as fruit, crackers, bars, cookies, or pretzels.
