1) PRE-INSTRUMENT CLASS not available 2008-2009 Recommended for students who are not quite ready for the commitment the beginning violin/viola class requires. This is an excellent opportunity for families who are interested in Suzuki lessons for their young child next fall or for very young students in the current beginner class.
2) BEGINNING VIOLIN/VIOLA CLASS --Young Beginners (January, 2009 through May, 2009 not offered) (September, 2008 - May, 2009) see info below This session for budding young violin & viola students is ideal for children ages 4 - 7. It begins with 7 hours of orientation and instruction (7:00 - 8:00 on the following Tuesday and Thursday evenings: Aug. 26 and 28, Sept. 2, 4, 9, 11 and 16 for parents only in which the basics of playing a string instrument are covered as well as Suzuki philosophy. Parents are encouraged to obtain an instrument for themselves to use during these sessions and during the first year to help their child learn at home. Following the parent only sessions are 4 weeks of group lessons held twice a week (Mondays & Thursdays from 6:00 - 6:30 on Sept 22, 25, and 29 and Oct. 6, 9, 13, and 16). Students and parents will meet for 30 minutes during these group sessions and work on some basic classroom skills and beginning violin/viola techniques. After this 4 week period, students will be assigned to a Suzuki teacher for individual lessons and meet with their individual lesson teacher once a week beginning the week of Oct. 20 and continue until the week ending May 23. See Calendar of Events for breaks and special events. Group lessons will also continue once a week on Thursdays at 6:00 - 6:30 from Oct. 23 through May 19 except for breaks, special events weeks and concert week. Times for group lessons during recital/performance class weeks may vary slightly. Parents should not obtain an instrument for their child until individual lessons begin. At that time, their individual lesson teacher will evaluate the child for the proper sized instrument. Student and parent sized instruments are available to rent from the Suzuki School at $18 per month. Parent only sessions: 7:00 - 8:00 on Aug. 26 & 28, and Sept. 2, 4, 9, 11, & 16. Group sessions: 6:00 -6:30 on Monday & Thursdays, Sept. 22, 25 & 29 and Oct. 6, 9, 13 and 16 and then Thursdays only from Oct. 23 through May 19. except for breaks and special events listed in the calendar of events. Individual lessons: In addition to the weekly group lesson, weekly individual lessons will start the week of Oct. 19 and continue weekly until May 24 except for breaks and performance class weeks. Individual lesson times will be arranged and announced before the end of the parent sessions and will be scheduled based on information provided on the registration form submitted. LOCATION: Russell Hall (room to be announced) Total COST: $859 (instructional & materials fees, includes The String Book) Included in this fee is $100 registration fee, $25 materials fee, $20 parent session fee, $25 initial group fee, $689 instructional fees. 3) BEGINNING VIOLIN/VIOLA CLASS --Older Beginners and Adult Students Students aged 8 through adult are also welcome. Please follow the registration information above. Lessons would begin as soon as an individual teacher can be assigned. Group lessons would begin as soon as the student was ready to join an existing group. You will be contacted as soon as we receive your form.
