About The Band
The "Panther" Marching Band, the largest student organization on the University of Northern Iowa campus, combines "Panther" spirit, pride, musicianship, and more than 100 years of tradition to create renowned gridiron excitement. Known for the "Professional" approach to performance, the Panther Marching Band is recognized for its dynamic style, innovative drill, and sensitive musical interpretation while accomplishing all this with "Class." This year, the PMB looks to continue to thrill audiences at home football games in the UNI-Dome, as well as during road trips to other university stadiums and exhibitions.
The Panther Marching Band’s pregame and halftime shows contain hundreds of drill formations, coordinated to exciting music written by some of the leading arrangers in the country. Central to these field performances are sophisticated routines by the UNI Colorguard and Feature Twirler, as well as professional dance choreography by the UNI Dance Team.
The Panther Marching Band is under the direction of Dr. S. Daniel Galyen. Graduate Assistants Megan Austin and Allyson Martin provide additional field leadership, and Drum Majors Spencer Ford, Nicki Vallentine, and Meredith Young provide field direction. The drumline is led by Sterling Cannaday, and Adam Swope. This year’s colorguard captains are Kelsey Thomson and Paige Holtan. The UNI colorguard Instructor is Mrs. Amy Hunzelman. Our drumline instructor is Michael Thursby. We are pleased to welcome back for another season our band announcer, Dr. Howard Barnes.
