Fred Kiser directs the UNI Singers and Varsity Men’s Glee Club at the University of Northern Iowa.  He is completing a doctoral degree (ABD) at the University of Iowa where he studies choral conducting with Timothy Stalter.  Kiser is writing his dissertation on the Salmi Boscarecci of Ignazio Donati, a prominent seventeenth century Italian composer.  Kiser received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance degree from Bradley University where he studied conducting with John Jost.  His Master of Music in Choral Conducting degree is from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he studied with David Rayl. 

Kiser is in his fourth season as artistic director of the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale.  The Chorale serves as the principal chorus for Orchestra Iowa, based in Cedar Rapids, and presents several additional concerts each season.

Kiser served as the Director of Music and Worship Ministries at Shueyville United Methodist Church from 2006-2009, and has served in several churches in Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee.

From 1996-2004, he was chairman of the Fine Arts Program and Assistant Professor of Music at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.  His responsibilities there included the Westminster Singers, Blue Jay Band, Jazz Choir, and he taught a variety of music history and theory courses.

Kiser has been the artistic director for the Columbia Choral Ensemble in Columbia, Missouri and served on the faculty of Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. He guest conducted the Chamber Singers of Iowa City.  He has also been involved in community theater productions in Columbia, Missouri and Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Kiser is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, the American Choral Directors Association and the Iowa Choral Directors Association.

He lives in Ely, Iowa with his wife Heidi and sons Ryan and Todd.
