Diana Blake is well known as an instrumental music educator. She received her B.M.E. and M.M. in Music Education from Drake University. Diana was the elementary/junior high band instructor in the Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools from 1965-2003. During those years, as well as currently, Diana maintains an extensive private lesson studio. She is known throughout Iowa as a guest conductor and adjudicator. She also plays clarinet and bassoon in the Cedar Falls Municipal Band and the Waterloo Municipal Band as well as smaller chamber groups. In December, 1966, Diana received the Philip Sehman Excellence in Teaching (Elementary Level) Award from the Northeast Iowa Bandmaster’s Association. Although she retired from public school teaching in 2003, Diana is very active in community activities as well as private teaching and serving as Director/Conductor of the UNI New Horizons Band.
