New Faculty Hires....
The UNI School of Music is pleased to announce the following additions to our faculty:
Dr. Melinda Boyd has accepted our position as Assistant Professor of Music History. Dr. Boyd is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Previously, she was an adjunct faculty member at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Boyd has Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Music in History from the University of Manitoba. She is a past recipient of the Wagner Foundation Memorial Fellowship, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellowship, and the University of British Columbia Graduate Fellowship. She has had numerous scholarly articles published and has presented a wide-array of papers at national/international conferences.

Dr. Boyd has taught a wide variety of courses for undergraduate and graduate students including: Graduate Research and Writing/Senior Research, History of Opera I & II, Survey in Romantic Music, Graduate History and Style (17th & 18th century, 19th & 20th century), Music in Culture Topics: Music and Politics, Genre Topics: German Romantic Opera, Composer Topics: Wagner's Ring Cycle, 19th Century Advanced Topics: "Themes and Variations: the Music of Robert and Clara Schumann", 19th Century Advance Topics: "Listening with Imagination: Perspectives on Music and Representation," Music in Culture Advance Topics: Perspectives on Popular Music Criticism and Analysis, and Opera and Drama: Wagner's Operatic Reform and its Realization (or not) in the Ring Cycle.
Dr. Amanda McCandless has accepted our position as Assistant Professor of Clarinet. Amanda has a Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Eastern Kentucky University. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Clarinet and Music Theory at Northeastern State University. Previous appointments were at Bemidji State University and Indiana University South Bend.

Professor McCandless has taught a wide variety of courses for undergraduates and graduate students including applied clarinet, chamber music, woodwind techniques, freshman music theory and aural skills, music rudiments, music appreciation, world music, jazz history and applied saxophone. Dr. McCandless is an active symphony and solo performer, most recently performing as principal clarinetist of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and the Tulsa Ballet Orchestra.
Ms. Sandra Walden has accepted our position as Assistant Professor in Opera and Musical Theatre Direction. Previously, she was an instructor at UNI from 2000 to the present, and 1995-1997; and earlier as an Instructor in Voice and Opera at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis. Sandra has a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Degree from Coe College.
..... Professor Walden has had extensive Directing and Production experience, including major opera and musical theatre performances, as well as opera scene concerts and musical theatre revues. She received the American College Theatre Festival Region V Award for Achievement in Stage Direction and Ensemble Acting. She has also sung professionally throughout her career.

Sandra has taught a wide variety of courses for undergraduate and graduate students including: Opera Ensemble, Opera Performance, Advanced Opera Performance, French Diction, Opera History and Literature, Studio Voice, Group Voice, Opera Workshop, Music Theatre Workshop, and various liberal arts courses.
