UNI Museums and John Deere to host presentation
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Museum will host "John Deere: Farming with GreenStar," a presentation of precision agriculture, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Schindler Education Center, Room 123, on the UNI campus.
Emily Harringa, UNI alumna and communications specialist with John Deere Ag Management Solutions, Urbandale, will lead the informational session, which will include a computer simulation of Deere’s GPS technology system GreenStar. Participants will be able to see firsthand how farmers benefit from employing GreenStar throughout the entire growing season. Attendees will learn how operators worldwide are using less fuel, increasing yields and saving money at this interactive event.
Harringa is a 2000 graduate of UNI with a bachelor's degree in organizational communication and a minor in technical writing.
"John Deere: Farming with GreenStar” is presented in connection with the University Museum's current featured exhibit, "Earth from Space," a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution, on display at the University Museum, 3219 Hudson Road, Cedar Falls, now through June 28.
“Earth from Space” features detailed satellite imagery of the planet and highlights the technology used to capture the images, as well as the varied applications for the data provided by the photographs.
“Earth from Space” is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and the exhibition has been made possible by Global Imagination. Additional support has been provided by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Smithsonian Women’s committee. The Smithsonian Community Grant program, funded by MetLife Foundation, and John Deere Waterloo Operations, are sponsors of this public program.
Admission to the museum and program is free and open to the public. University Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday.
