Spring exhibit at UNI Museum features a new look at coffee, from farm to cup

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa –--The University of Northern Iowa Museums will present, "Coffee: The World in Your Cup," a traveling exhibit from Seattle's Burke Museum, on display Feb. 13 through May 8, at the University Museum, 3219 Hudson Road in Cedar Falls.

The exhibit explores the environmental and social impacts of the coffee industry and recommends ways for consumers to make socially and environmentally responsible coffee purchases at the grocery store or in a coffee shop.  Visitors also can learn how coffee affects human health and about the effects of caffeine on the body. 

"Coffee: The World in Your Cup" will display four short videos and color photographs of farms from South America to the Pacific Islands and tell the global story of coffee cultivation and trade. The exhibit will feature interpretive displays of traditional Turkish and Ethiopian coffee sets, picking baskets and more than 40 coffee sacks from around the world. 

Museum viewing hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information about UNI Museums and a complete calendar of events, visit www.uni.edu/museum or call (319) 273-2188.
