Payment Schedule - Financial Aid Info
GENERAL
CONDITIONS
The French Summer Institute program and dates may be affected by
alterations in transportation services or by other causes. The
right is reserved to make such alterations as may be found
desirable for the convenience of the program and for the proper
carrying out of the program.
Neither the participating institution nor the director of the
French Institute assumes liability for any injury, loss, damage,
accident, delay, irregularity or additional expense arising from
the use of any vehicle or services, or from strikes, war, civil
disturbance, weather, quarantines, sickness, government
restrictions or regulations, or from any act or omission of any
airline, railroad, motor coach, or other transportation company,
or from any other cause whatsoever. Nor is any responsibility
assumed in any way for loss or damage to Institute member's
baggage or personal effects.
All prices are based upon current tariffs and current exchange
rates, and are subject to confirmation or adjustment when final
payment for the Institute is made.
A fifty dollar ($50.00) non-refundable deposit should be sent
with the application forms. A one hundred ($100.00) deposit must
be paid upon notification of acceptance, and a payment of five
hundred dollars ($500.00) should be paid no later than February
1, 2008. An additional five hundred ($500.00) payment is due by
March 1, 2008, and the balance should be paid no later than
April 15, 2008.
Cancellations after April 1, 2008 will incur a 10% service
charge that will be deducted from the refund. After May 1 a 20%
service charge will be deducted from the refund.
No refunds can be made after classes have begun.
If you are applying for Financial Aid, please note that you must
be a "degree-status" student, i.e. one who is seeking the M.A.
degree. You must apply for Financial Aid at least four months
before the starting date of your program and the process must be
complete before you leave the country. For Financial Aid
information, please call 1 800 772-2736 or see http://www.uni.edu/finaid.
Please note that it is your responsibility to see to it that
your fees for the French Summer Institute are paid.
The Financial Aid Office DOES NOT SEND PAYMENTS ON YOUR BEHALF
TO OUR OFFICE. Normally they send the aid checks to you, and
you, in turn, send payment to us. Some aid may arrive while you
are in Europe, so please make arrangements with a friend/family
member to deposit your aid check in your account and then send
the French Summer Institute office a check on your account
and/or make arrangements with the UNI Controller's Office to
have your aid disbursements direct deposited. The aid you
receive may be called/labeled a "refund." Please do not think
that this is extra money which can be spent for other purposes.
Before spending any aid money, please check with the French
Summer Institute office to make sure your account with us has
been paid in full. Your balance due to the Institute does not
appear in the University Billing system so you may receive
erroneous information if you check with any other office but
ours.
If you are applying for Financial Aid through UNI, be sure you
have told the French Summer Institute office so we can register
you. Your Financial Aid disbursements can delayed if you are not
registered for classes by a certain date. If you have
informed us of your application for Financial Aid you do not
need to follow the payment schedule (except for the $50 deposit
to be sent with your Institute application.)
For students who have not applied for Financial Aid: Please
follow the payment schedule above. Our office does not send
bills unless you are past due.
Our office cannot handle payments made by credit cards. Please
send checks or money orders.
The Department of Modern Languages does not support abusive use
of either drugs or alcohol and therefore expects that mature
judgment be exercised while participating in our Study Abroad
Programs. While alcoholic consumption is socially accepted in
other countries, inebriation by Program participants will not be
tolerated. As you are ambassadors of both the University of
Northern Iowa and the Department of Modern Languages, you must
conduct yourself in a manner that will reflect positively on the
department, the university and your country.
Members accepted for the French Summer Institute will be
expected to comply with the requests of the University for the
filing of all data, transcripts, and other papers.
Acceptance to the program will be provisional pending the
receipt of ALL required forms, duly signed.
