2009 Fall Leadership Challenge Course

In partnership with the University of Iowa, the SLC is developing a low/high Challenge Course program that will focus on leadership skills development, group dynamics and personal growth.  The program provides an experiential learning environment for students to learn more about how they function in a group and what individual strengths they can continue to develop.

 

This is a full day program that begins with simple teambuilding exercises, progresses to low challenge course initiatives that focus on group dynamics and problem solving, and finally culminates in a high challenge course experience which challenges students on an individual level while receiving support from their peers. There are physical aspects to all of these activities and the high challenge course is 15-20 feet off the ground, however, this should not discourage any students with disabilities or fear of heights from participating. The entire program operates on “challenge by choice” which encourages participants to gauge their personal level of challenge for the day and will not be required to participate beyond their comfort level. The facilitators at the University of Iowa are fully trained to run the course and safety gear is provided.

 

The program will be on Saturday, October 24, 2009 and includes transportation and lunch. However, we do ask that students put down a $20 refundable deposit to hold their spot in the program. The deposit will be refunded to students on the day of the program.
