Christopher R. Martin

 
Christopher R. Martin is Interim Head and Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. His research has been published in Journalism Studies, Journal of Communication Inquiry, Communication Research, Labor Research Journal, Popular Music and Society, Journal of Communication, Perspectives on Politics, Editor & Publisher, Z magazine, the Huffington Post, the Web journal Images and several edited books. He also writes a monthly column for Népszabadság, Hungary’s leading quality daily newspaper.


With Richard Campbell and Bettina Fabos, he is co-author of Media and Culture: An Introduction to Mass Communication (Bedford/St. Martin’s), now in its 8th edition, and author of an award-winning book on how labor unions are covered in the news media, Framed! Labor and the Corporate Media (Cornell University Press, 2004). Martin previously taught at Miami University (Ohio), and was a visiting professor at Universitat Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt University) in Austria.  He is a recipient of the State of Iowa’s Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence (2004) and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts Faculty Excellence Award (2010) and the Veridian Community Engagement Award (2011).


Martin holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, an MA from Emerson College, and a BA from Capital University.
