The construction management curriculum at the University of Northern
Iowa was designed with input from Iowa contractors and professionals
in the construction industry to ensure that our graduates meet the needs
of this very important sector of our economy.
The program is conceptually based and demands that students possess
a strong understanding of mathematics and science, engineering principles,
architecture, business, liberal arts and construction sciences, along
with the interrelationships between these disciplines. All of these
areas of study, coupled with summer work experience, prepare graduates
for entry-level positions in the construction industry. Graduates can
handle marketing, financing, computer applications and decision making,
as well as construction operations and procedures in a variety of office
and field settings.
The major goals of the construction management program are to develop
students’ managerial knowledge, specialized knowledge in the field
of construction, a sense of professionalism and leadership, abilities
to think and reason logically, human understanding, communication skills,
and abilities to work effectively.
Graduates of the construction management program typically find employment in the construction industry and related businesses. Placement opportunities in the state of Iowa and nationally have been excellent. Annual salaries range from the upper $20,000 to as high as $50,000.

Epsilon Pi Tau membership is open to students, teachers, and administrators of Technology Education, and executives from industry. Undergraduate members are selected from the top 10% of the junior and senior classes. Teachers, administrators and industrial executives are selected for membership on the basis of leadership and outstanding professional contributions and achievements. Membership is without regard to race, sex, or creed. Epsilon Pi Tau has 85 Chapters located at Colleges and Universities and 13 Field Chapters distributed strategically through out the United States and several foreign countries. Several full-tuition industrial technology scholarships are available to incoming freshmen on a competitive basis through the College of Natural Sciences Mathematics, Science and Technology Symposium. Other scholarships are available through endowments and industrial donations to students majoring in industrial technology.
