Summary

Graduates of the MIS program at the University of Northern Iowa can be expected to

Today’s complex organizations require employees who are able to blend managerial skills with competence in advanced computer technologies. A degree in management information systems (MIS) prepares students for this work environment.

 

MIS graduates are not merely computer-literate business majors. MIS graduates have a broad understanding of how computers can support the decision-making and information requirements of an organization.

Careers

 

MIS graduates can expect to work in all sectors of business and government. This includes both profit and non-profit settings, from entrepreneurial start-ups to multinational corporations and all functional business areas, e.g., production, marketing, finance, accounting, human resources. Entry-level positions occupied by MIS graduates from UNI are diverse and include programmer, programmer/analyst, test support technician and end-user support analyst. Career progression generally involves leadership roles in information systems development projects. Long-term opportunities include managerial positions in both information systems and general management.

Facilities

 

The College of Business Administration is housed in the 100,000-square-foot, $10.2 million Curris Business Building completed in 1990. Computer laboratories and computer-assisted classrooms provide students with access to state-of-the-art software and technology. Computer linkages across campus, the nation and the world enable students to access databases and a vast array of resources for solving business problems.

Scholarships

 

The Department of Management offers the Communications Data Services, Inc. Scholarship, which is worth $500, to current majors.
