Creative Writing

The Department of Languages & Literatures offers NAR2both an undergraduate minor and a graduate emphasis in Creative Writing. Both the minor and the emphasis allow students to work with published authors to develop their craft and gain exposure to the world of literary publishing.

Creative
Writing at UNI features small-size classes with dedicated instructors. Students have the option of pursuing instruction in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Many students take the opportunity to volunteer or work an internship at the North American Review, America’s oldest literary magazine, which is housed at UNI and which will soon be celebrating its 200th anniversary.

Grant readingCedar Falls boasts a vibrant arts and literary community. Students attend readings by regional and nationally-known figures, share their work at regular open mics, and volunteer with Inner Weather, UNI’s student literary magazine. Creative Writing at UNI (join the Facebook group) is a great way to make your voice heard and to find an audience for your writing.
