UNI Jazz Studies. Jazz has been an integral part of the University of Northern Iowa School of Music for nearly 50 years. The original band, formed and run by student musicians in the early 1950's, eventually evolved into the UNI Jazz Studies program.

This nationally recognized program has grown to include several large and small jazz ensembles as well as a full curriculum of jazz studies courses. Read More


Jazz Band One Releases its 19th Recording
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Jazz Band One's newest cd, Strange Wonderful. This recording, the band's 19th, is the first to come out of the new Russell Hall recording studio. Included are 4 tracks culled from concerts in Bengtson Auditorium and 5 tracks recorded in the studio. All tracks were mixed and mastered at the Russell Hall studio by Tom Barry. The bulk of the program consists of student compositions and arrangements, including works by Ari Micich, Courtney Beadel, Mike Conrad, Peter Roberts, and Easton Stuard. Also represented is UNI graduate, Ryan Middagh (class of '08). Copies are available from Chris Merz at $10 each (plus $2 shipping). Christmas is coming--stock up today!
