Recovering A Quarantined Inbox

Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus (SAV) can quarantine a Local Folder to which email is automatically moved by either filters or by having POP protocol.  Using POP protocol instructs the software to automatically move all Inbox email from the server to the Local Folders Inbox.  Inbox is most commonly affected file but others used as filtered folders also can have the same situation happen.  Our recommendation is to exclude the Local Folders directory or you will have to repeat this procedure often.

  1. Double Click your SAV icon
  2. Disable real-time protection in SAV (Configure/File System Protection)
  3. Enable "Exclude selected files and folders" and specify the folder of the Local Folders Local Directory (actual folder location of the quarantined Inbox file)
  4. Unquarantine ("Restore") Inbox (View/Quarantine)
  5. Re-Enable real-time protection (Configure/File System Protection) (with exclusion for Local Directory)
  6. Open Mail and delete infected message without opening the attachment
  7. Compact Folders
  8. Empty Trash
