FAQs - ITS Recommended Browser

Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends that university students, faculty, and staff currently using only Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) strongly consider using other alternatives for browsing off-campus Internet (World Wide Web) sites, whenever possible. This recommendation is made to help minimize exposure to serious web-based attacks on both personal- and university-owned computers, and is based on IE vulnerabilities over the past several years that only appear to be worsening (see http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-5457105.html?tag=nl). The risk in using IE comes from encountering malicious code on websites. While ITS is reasonably confident that uni.edu sites are currently free of such code, we know such code exists on off-campus sites.

ITS supports the latest version of Firefox (and will continue to support IE as well). Firefox can be downloaded from http://www.uni.edu/its/us/software. Support for this browser and others varies across campus; contact your support staff for details.

 

If you need additional assistance please contact the Computer Consulting Center (CCC) at (319) 273-5555. The CCC is located in Room 36 ITTC Building (East Gym). Consultants are available to provide hands-on assistance daily Monday through Friday during University Business Hours.
