ITS Recommend Thunderbird Email Client
ITS recommends using the Thunderbird Email client software. Depending upon your skill level plus with a little patience you should be able to setup this software in 5 to 20 minutes.
ITS has found Mozilla softwares to be excellent products
for our campus environment. We have found Mozilla's Thunderbird (email client only) option with using Mozilla's Firefox an excellent combination. NOTE: some MEMFIS applications and other websites require Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser.
We have prepared documents to help with the migration to the Mozilla softwares. This help provides for a fast migration as all email messages, bookmarks, address books, address lists, individual preferences, etc. can be maintained.
ITS recommends the Thunderbird client as the centrally recommended and suported email client software.
The documentation below was done for Windows but other platforms are similar. Faculty/Staff, these settings work on your home computer as well, however, when at home you will NOT want to save messages to Local Folders as those messages would then be stored on your home computer instead of your work computer.
For Faculty/Staff with Windows XP Professional systems at the office, an easier option
is to remotely access your office system from home. Not only would you have your email
but you would also have your entire office system including applications and files.
