Residence Halls Network Upgrade - Wireless

Start Date:
June, 2011

The Department of Residence and ITS Network Services have begun planning for wireless coverage in all UNI residence halls. This past year was spent evaluating technology and conducting site surveys. The plan calls for wireless access points that will operate in both the 5gHz and 2.4 gHz spectrums supporting 802.11 A, B, G and N standards. This project will have a significant construction component with upgrades to fiber optic cabling feeding each residence hall, copper cabling connecting feeding each access point and a high speed wired backbone that will support 10Gb transmissions. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2011 with completion in fall 2012.
