PROBLEM:
I just installed an email client (Thunderbird/Outlook/Etc.) today and got everything set up. Now every time that I try to access my e-mail my client will not connect and I get the error message:
connection to server mail.uni.edu timed out.
RESPONSE:
Most likely the problem is either you did not configure your client to connect with a secure (port 993 inbound) connection or some part of the configuration information is incorrect.
Double check server settings for 100% accuracy, particularly these settings:
Inbound Server: mail.uni.edu (plus MUST be using port 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
Outbound Server: mail.uni.edu (plus MUST be using port 465 (SSL) or 25 (no encryption)
Username: your Username@uni.edu [1] (i.e. jsmith@uni.edu [2])
