AACE Global U is pleased to announce the next seminar in its already successful series, "Social Media: Trends and Implications for Learning." The seminar series, led by George Siemens and David Cormier, is without fee and will include live interactive sessions, in addition to discussions with guest speakers and participants. All sessions are co-sponsored by and archived in the Education & Information Technology Library (
http://EdITLib.org )

Social media and emerging technologies are gaining increased attention for use in education. The list of tools grows daily. Examples: blogs, wikis, Ning, podcasts, Facebook, Twitter, Second Life, cloud computing, surface computing, mobile learning, and so on. "Social Media" seminars explore the impact of new technologies, research, and related projects. Finding coherence in the midst of rapid changes is increasingly difficult.

This monthly series will create a forum for educators to gather, present, and discuss the future impact of today's trends.

California State University System - CIO Roundtable

With 23 campuses, almost 450,000 students, and 46,000 faculty and staff, the CSU System is the largest university system in the US. This R2N program engages Chancellor's Office senior managers and campus CIOs in discussions on how information technology assists campus operations and instruction, how the system's IT resources are best deployed to serve campus needs, and how to assess IT's impact from campus to campus.

Assessment and Outcomes 2008: New Mandates, Technologies & Opportunities

Greater accountability is creating new challenges for higher education. The 2006 Spellings Commission Report generated much debate about the current state and future direction of American higher education. This R2N program analyzes how technology and the broader requirements for assessment can be used to inform the future of accreditation, performance, and decision-making.

Green Computing and Higher Education: The New "3 Rs"-
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint, Reuse & Recycle

The proliferation of new computing devices reaches every area of campus service to support instruction, facilities, and student life. Many campuses are looking to CIOs to conserve energy and to promote more sustainable solutions in labs and data centers. This R2N program focuses on issues, earth friendly policies, and ways that CIOs may contribute to a more sustainable, earth-friendly future.

Anticipating The Unexpected: Campus Security,
Emergency Response & Crisis Management

Natural disasters and campus tragedies - September 11th, Katrina, Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois - highlight the need for higher education to improve its capacity during emergencies. In this R2N program, campus presidents, campus technology and telecommunications officials, and technology providers discuss the changing landscape of emergency response, crisis management, and campus security.

How to Prevent PowerPoint Overload

Speaker:  Cliff Atkinson, Author & Speaker, Sociable Media
Seminar Overview: Aligning your multimedia message with the way the mind works.
When the lights go down and a presenter starts reading bullet points from a slide, do you ever feel bored, frustrated, or sleepy? If so, there's research that indicates that it's probably not your fault.  It turns out that the conventional bullet-point approach can quickly overload the ability of the human mind to understand information. But now there's a better way.  By understanding the basic research that explains how the mind works, you can radically transform your PowerPoint approach to produce simpler and clearer communications.  By the end of the seminar, you'll have the concepts and tools you need to start presenting more clearly and effectively!

In this seminar you will learn how to:
  • Respect the limitations of short-term memory
  • Use Notes Page view to balance visual and verbal elements
  • Use visual cues to reinforce for both you and the audience the most important points
