Graduate Assistantship Opening
ITS-Educational Technology
ITS-Educational Technology has an opening for
a Graduate
Assistant during the next academic year.
This assistantship entails a 20-hour
workweek that involves presenting computer workshops to students, faculty, and
staff at UNI. For the 2008-09 academic year, payment involves a full
stipend and a full tuition
scholarship.
Read what some former students said in
regard to their work as a GA in Educational Technology:
"The G.A. experience
opened several doors for me and gave me tremendous experience that my classes
did not offer. Going back to school (full-time) and the G.A. remains, from a
career and personal growth standpoint, the best thing I have done. I doubt I
could say that if I had done the degree on a part-time basis. The G.A. made it
easier to finish the degree in twelve months debt-free."
"I was already a semester into
the program as a full-time student when offered the G.A. The G.A. made
it much easier and has since proven to be very beneficial when looking
for jobs."
"One of the main reasons that I went to Graduate school was for the
assistantship at the CET. I knew I wanted to get into training and most
companies wanted experience before being hired so it was beneficial. I
also was beginning to enjoy computers and their applications, which also
increased my desire to go to grad school.
The assistantship was one of my greatest opportunities from a
learning/educational standpoint and on the job experiences that I have
ever had."
"...the experience as the grad assistant was worth more than the
classroom experience so I am very very glad I got the opportunity to
work at ITS. In fact, my experience in the training services Dept.
is what led me to my research interest, the skill set that I have now,
the internship that I got and then the prof job offers that I received.
It changed my life. Really!!"
Successful candidates must
have a 3.0 undergraduate GPA (or successful completion of at least eight hours
of graduate work with a GPA of 3.0) and be admitted to a graduate degree program
at UNI. Preference will be given to those applicants who commit to both the Fall
2008 and Spring 2009 semesters. The ability to quickly learn common software
programs is required; experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Access) and creating web pages is desired but not required.
Summer assistantships for 2009 may also be available. Preference for those assistantships
will be given to the assistants hired for Fall 2008/Spring 2009. Summer
assistantships require a separate application.
