Faculty Focus consists of a number of technology
workshops. These workshops are offered the week just prior to
the beginning of the spring semester so faculty can focus on learning
new technology skills before the pressures of the new semester begin.
Our focus that week is entirely on faculty through
workshops and consultation concentrating on technology’s role in teaching
and learning. See the workshop listing below.

WebCT I— Setting Up Your Course

DESCRIPTION: Learn how to develop your WebCT site. We’ll cover skills
such as adding pages, customizing a page, adding WebCT tools, using
Designer Map, adding links to the navigation bar, adding a syllabus,
organizing icons, uploading content using Manage Files, and adding
content modules.
WebCT II—Communication Tools
Tuesday, January 8,

PREREQUISITE: WebCT I
DESCRIPTION: Learn how
to use the communication tools provided within WebCT. You’ll get
hands-on practice with the discussions area, WebCT mail, chat, and the
calendar tool. In addition, you'll learn about the MyWebCT portal, using
bread crumbs, and how to make course backups.
WebCT III—Managing Groups and Assignments
Wednesday, January 9,
8:30-noon, StudioIT – ITTC 136
PREREQUISITE: WebCT I
DESCRIPTION: Learn how
to use WebCT's features designed specifically for supporting group
work, including sign-up sheets and group activities. Create both
individual and group assignments and learn how both instructors and
students work within the assignments tool.
WebCT IV—Gradebook and
Assessments
Thursday, January 10, 8:30-noon, StudioIT –
ITTC 136
PREREQUISITE: WebCT I
DESCRIPTION: This
workshop will address WebCT's Gradebook and Assessment tools.
Assessment types include quizzes/tests, surveys and self-tests. You
will get hands-on experience in actually creating each question type
in a quiz.
Preparing Course Materials for the Web

DESCRIPTION: The World
Wide Web places unique requirements on the formatting of files. Some
file formats work better than others, some don't work at all; some
are simple to create, others are more difficult; some can be
downloaded and used or modified by anyone, others cannot. This
workshop will describe many of the various methods available with an
emphasis on converting to Adobe Acrobat PDF files.

This hands-on workshop builds on the two prerequisites,

images for the web.
