NEW TECHNOLOGY AT UNI

Capture your class or events live and make them available online when they are over!

The technologies that make this possible are a specialized capture station placed in a multimedia classroom working in tandem with the current ITS media distribution system.

The Accordent Capture system is started by clicking a start icon. Once started, the system captures video and audio of the presenter as well as any item that the presenter has on their computer. The video, audio, and screen captures are synchronized automatically and are available for viewing live during the class or event.

Once the class or event is complete, the presenter clicks the stop icon and their presentation is available almost immediately on-line with no editing needed. This solution is automatic, making classroom capture very easy to use.

This technology is available in StudioIT 1 (ITTC 134). This facility is available to UNI faculty at no charge to use for classroom instruction. For more information on reserving StudioIT 1, visit http://www.uni.edu/its/et/studioit.

For more information on this technology, please contact any of the Educational Technology Specialists-Phil Hibbard, Lori Seawel, and Jason Vetter-its-tnt@uni.edu.

CARVER GRADUATE
INSTITUTESUMMER 2007

The second Carver Graduate Institute will be held in May and is entitled “Immigrant and Refugee Populations: Promoting Wellbeing and Integration in the New Iowa.” The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust is providing funding for three Graduate Institutes for UNI’s graduate faculty, with the final one to occur next year. The purpose of the Graduate Institutes is to establish an enduring and intentional Graduate community across the university; bringing together graduate faculty and students to promote intellectual communication, learn from each other, share instructional technology tools and methods, and develop new ideas for interdisciplinary teaching and research. Dr. Mark Grey and Dr. Michele Yehieli will lead this year’s Institute with support and technology innovation provided by ITS Educational Technology. The focal point of May’s Institute is learning first-hand about the New Iowans, immigrant and refugee integration into Iowa. With a packed agenda and an overflowing number of participants, this year’s Institute is shaping- up to be a great one!

SUMMERTIME, AND THE
