ePortfolio Advisory Council

The ePortfolio Council provides the Director of Educational Technology with communications and feedback from faculty, staff, and students that guides the use of eportfolios for assessment, reflection, and career purposes.

Background

ITS Educational Technology conducted several surveys of faculty and students during the past five years regarding interest in and use of electronic portfolios.  As a result, a two-year pilot occurred from June 2006 to June 2008.  Initially, a select group of faculty began to use the Blackboard Portfolio tool in their courses.  As the semesters progressed, other faculty and individual students requested use of the Blackboard Portfolio.  Today, as the campus continues to move forward with the use of an e-portfolio tool, it is crucial that communications from faculty, staff, and students serve as a guiding force and source of feedback.  Good communication and feedback are important to maintaining a focus on key issues related to e-portfolios, setting a path that aligns with needs, and ensuring the allocation of proper resources.

To provide this, an ITS Educational Technology E-Portfolio Advisory Council is being formed to provide advice and recommendations to ITS Educational Technology staff in these endeavors.

Role/Charge

1. Assist ITS Educational Technology in setting directions and priorities for supporting the use of e-portfolios.
2. Recommend planning and development activities related to e-portfolios ensuring UNI’s Strategic Plan serves as the overall umbrella.
3. Communicate to and share information with other faculty, staff, and students regarding e-portfolio initiatives and directions.
4. Assist in evaluating the e-portfolio support provided to the campus.

Attend and participate in E-Portfolio Advisory Council meetings at least twice a year.
