Collaboration Suite

Project Overview   Collaboration Suite (Collab) will be implemented in phases at UNI. Collab is a group of enterprise-class messaging and collaboration applications. Collab contains the following components:
  • Email and Single sign on (Phase 1, March 23)
Future Collab applications (for consideration):
  • MyUNIverse (and possibly MEMFIS) move to Single sign on (Phase 2)
  • Calendar (Phase 3)
  • Voicemail & Fax (via email)
  • Content Services
  • Discussions
  • Mobile Collaboration
  • Real-Time Collaboration
  • Search
  • Workspaces
Collaboration Suite integrates Single sign on to manage authentication for its applications. This Single sign on tool will allow us to use one set of user credentials (username and password) to login to multiple applications.

This project begins the capability for end users to have one account for accessing more systems, which will help simplify account management throughout campus.

Phase 1   Phase 1 of the Collaboration Suite project is migrating email from our current system to Collab Email.

The following items will be transferred to Collab automatically, no individual action required:
  • All active email accounts as of March 23rd
  • The contents of every email user's INBOX
  • Email aliases i.e. Viviana.Dragu@uni.edu for the user dragu
  • Automatic Forwarding to another email address, i.e. forwarding of their UNI email to Gmail or Yahoo
The following items will not be transferred to Collab automatically, individuals will need to address these items themselves after conversion:
  • The contents of any other server side email folders. Users will need to use the folder conversion tool to transfer the contents of server side email folders besides their INBOX.
For more information on the folder conversion tool click here
  • Auto-reply or vacation messages. For more information on auto-reply messages in Collab click here
  • Mailing lists will remain where they are for the time being. Thus, mailing list management will not change.

Below are the details of the Phase 1 implementation plan:
  1. UNI email becomes unavailable at 5pm Friday, March 23rd
  2. Mailman and Mailspinner applications are shutdown
  3. User access to our current email cluster is shutdown
  4. ITS works on moving email to Collab
  5. Setup new Collaboration Suite portal in MyUNIverse
  6. UNI web pages will be pointed to the new web-based email clients
  7. By the open of business on March 26; let users setup new email passwords in MyUNIverse and allow access to Collab email

Phase 2   In May MyUNIverse (and possibly MEMFIS) will be moved to Collaboration Suite authentication.

Phase 3   Oracle Calendar will be integrated to Collab in Phase 3.

Future Plans   We will be investigating integration with Active Directory, WebCT and other UNIX platforms.
