CatID FAQ
Your username is the unique 3-8 character account name that identifies you as a member of the UNI community. For students, your username is the portion before the @ sign in your UNI email address. See CatID for more information. Students have one opportunity to change the system-generated username you were assigned. If you haven't done so already, you may select a different username.
If you are accessing email or MyUNIverse as a new user, your initial password is in the format mmdd$nnnnnn (mm is the first 2 letters of your birth month, dd is the 2 digit number of your birth day and nnnnnn is your 6 digit university ID#, example: ja01$123456). For security reasons, you are required to change your password the first time you log in. Your new password must be at least 8 characters long and must contain at least one alpha, one numeric, and one special character. See the password requirements for a complete listing. Before accessing eLearning (WebCT) or mainframe QWS3270 transactions for the first time, you must have established your CatID password as described above.
Go to the change password utility (Note: the login screen will appear) and enter your login and current password. Select a new password and enter it again to verify that you have typed it correctly. Your new password must be at least 8 characters long and must contain at least one alpha, one numeric, and one special character. The password is case sensitive, so you may enter any combination of lowercase and uppercase letters. See the password requirements for a complete listing.
If you can't remember your CatID password, you will need to contact the Computer Consulting Center to request your password be reset.
Staff in the CCC will request information from you to confirm your identity. Your password will be reset and you will be required to change your password the first time you log in.
The change to a combination of CatID username and password is part of a larger project to implement a single sign-on method of authentication. In March 2007, the first step in that project was to establish your CatID username and password with the Collaboration Suite email system. The second phase was implemented in May 2007 to bring MyUNIverse into CatID authentication. January 2008 saw the addition of eLearning (WebCT) to the central authentication system and mainframe QWS3270 transactions were added in August 2008. For additional information on the single sign-on project, see Centralized Authentication System. For information on the new email system, see Collaboration Suite.
