Student Computing Advisory Committee
January 29, 2008
Draft Minutes
IN ATTENDANCE: Sam Barr (ESS), Mary Friedrich (Secretary), Kristen Johnson (CSBS),
Andy Knight (CHFA), Marty Mark (VPAF), Keller McBride (CNS),
Chris McGee (ITS), Steve Moon (ITS), Tom Peterson (ITS), Kevin Shannon (NISG), Kristin Soliah (LIB)
GUEST: Rick Seeley, ITS-Educational Technology
ABSENT: Adam Bentley (NISG), Venu Gopal (GRAD), Farzad Moussavi (VPAA), Derek
Sallis (COE)
Meeting began at 11:00 am with self-introductions and was chaired by Kevin Shannon.
Electronic Digital Signage: Rick Seeley shared information about electronic digital signage (EDS) with the group. This type of signage can be distributed via cable TV or by a network-based system. Currently there is EDS in the lobby of Schindler Education Center, the Curris Business Building, and ITTC. Maucker Union will have EDS in early February. To date there is no centralized plan for installation of these systems across campus. This committee should share information about this technology with their constituents and provide their findings at the next meeting.
FY2006-2007 Student Computer Fee: Steve Moon shared information about the Student Computer Fee Annual Report with the group and reviewed the process of how the funds are distributed.
FY2007-2008 Student Computer Fee Special Allocations: Steve Moon shared information on the process by which requests for special allocations are made.
Both of the above reports were sent to the committee just prior to this meeting so many did not have time to review the extensive documents. In order to have a productive discussion, Moon asked that the committee take time to review them prior to the next meeting. You may contact him with questions prior to the next meeting by e-mailing him at: steve.moon@uni.edu or you may e-mail your thoughts to the entire group at its-scac@uni.edu.
Lab Printers: Tom Peterson stated that new printers have been installed in all the student computing labs. He welcomes any feedback on the change.
Future Meeting Dates: Friedrich will work with the committee to find two more dates to meet prior to the end of the semester.
Meeting adjourned at 11:55 am
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Friedrich
