UNI Planning and Policy Committee
      for Information Technology

CHARGE:
The Planning and Policy Committee for Information Technology (PPCIT) has responsibility for making recommendations to the cabinet concerning campus-wide information technology planning and policy. To make informed recommendations, the Committee solicits input and dialogue on issues that have campus-wide impact on information technology.

The committee may delegate the drafting of policies and planning documents to qualified entities appointed by the PPCIT. PPCIT thoroughly examines the draft, making necessary changes or requesting further study or clarification. PPCIT decisions are then shared with the campus or sent to the Cabinet as appropriate.

MEMBERSHIP:
One representative with faculty rank from each college and library technology advisory committee (six) appointed by the dean, one representative from each division technology advisory committee (four) appointed by the vice president, and two student representatives (one undergraduate and one graduate) from the Student Computing Advisory

Committee (SCAC) appointed by the chair. The committee will be chaired by the Associate Vice President for Information Technology Services. Deans, vice presidents, and the SCAC chair will provide the Associate Vice President with the name of their representative by the third Friday in September of each year. Terms will run from October 1 through September 30.

Membership on college, division, and student technology committees is required to better assure knowledge of campus technology needs and issues, and to improve communications between the PPCIT and these committees. This representation model, however, is not intended for these technology advisory committees to serve as "mini PPCITs", reviewing and acting upon every PPCIT agenda item. Each representative will be expected to use his/her overall knowledge and experience to serve as an independent member of the PPCIT to address campus-wide issues and policies. Representatives, of course, are not precluded from carrying forward to the PPCIT campus-wide issues or proposals identified by their technology advisory committee.

Approved by the Cabinet November 15, 1999
