Galen was an Iowa K-12 school business official for nearly 18 years, after sixteen years of secondary mathematics teaching and coaching. Galen retired as the Associate Superintendent of Administrative Services for the West Des Moines Community Schools with an enrollment of approximately 8,800 students in 2006. Galen is a past president of the Iowa Association of School Business Officials. In addition, he serves as an adjunct instructor for the school finance class at Drake University and the Iowa School Business Management Academy at Iowa State University. Galen holds a BA in secondary mathematics teaching from the University of Northern Iowa, an MA in secondary administration from the University of Iowa and an Ed.S. in Educational Administration with superintendent certificate from Drake University. He has additional graduate work with emphasis in ethics at Iowa State University. Currently, Galen is the Vice President of Administration and Finance for Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo, IA. Galen’s major areas of responsibility at Hawkeye include finances, financial aid, technology, and facility management. |
