Modern Languages
The Department
of Modern Languages at the University of Northern Iowa prides
itself on preparing students for teaching and non-teaching positions
in today's world. Students may earn MA credit on campus or through
our institutes abroad in French and Spanish. Students are expected
to have an undergraduate major or minor in the intended area
of study. Students who do not have a major or minor in the intended
area of study may be admitted provisionally, providing they
can document their language skills and the academic preparation
required to succeed in the graduate program for which they are

the Office of Admissions

undergraduate grade point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 point
scale

| Graduate Assistantship Requirements |
- Before being
considered for a stipend or scholarship, students must
be admitted to degree status (see above for info on admissions).
- Applicants
applying for graduate assistant stipends and graduate
tuition scholarships should have two letters of recommendation
sent to Department Head, Department of Modern Languages,
Univ. of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0504.

Students
must complete and submit the graduate assistantship
and/or tuition scholarship applications forms (www.grad.uni.edu/assistantships/default.aspx)
must be received by the department by February 1.
