Mental Health Counseling
The UNI
Mental Health Counseling program (M.A.) has an outstanding reputation
and received the NCACES Innovative Counselor Education Master's
Degree Program Award in 1999. Our program is based on long-standing
tradition and is delivered by highly energetic faculty who are
extensively involved in research, practice, and professional
service at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
Graduates of this program will be prepared to practice in a
variety of mental health and community agencies, including hospitals,
clinics, substance abuse agencies, hospice organizations, and
mental health centers. The Mental Health Counseling Program,
the first CACREP-accredited mental health program in the nation,
has a well-established nationwide reputation for excellence.
School Counseling
The UNI
School Counseling program (M.A.E.) prepares individuals to practice
counseling in K-12 school settings. Graduates of this program
will have the knowledge and skills to implement a comprehensive,
sequential, developmental program as described in the National
Standards for School Counseling Programs. Furthermore, they
will be trained to collaborate as well as assume leadership
roles in order to promote healthy development for all children
and families in a diverse society. The School Counseling Program,
also CACREP-accredited has a well-established nationwide reputation
for excellence, having been one of the first programs in the
nation to train elementary counselors and among the first to
offer K-12 training programs.
