Name
Khalfan
Alharrasi - Oman
Major
Graduate
student in TESOL (Teaching
English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Why
I chose UNI
My
job requires that I have an advanced degree, so I have a
three-year leave of absence to continue my studies. The
coordinators of my scholarship program recommended UNI because
of the TESOL program, which is excellent. I'm glad I came
here - the students and people in the community are very
helpful and kind. Whenever I'm confused, there's always
someone to offer help.
What
I liked once I got here
It
feels like a garden. It's very green and pretty. It's very
different from Oman! I also like Bartlett Hall where I live
- the other students are very respectful and quiet and pay
attention to the courtesy study hours. Students are kept
very well informed through MyUNIverse updates and E-Mail
notices.
Plans
when I leave UNI
I'd
like to continue and get my Ph.D at UNI. Then I'll go back
to my job as Head of Assessment and Evaluation in the English
language department in the Ministry of Education in Oman.
What
I am involved in
I
participate in social activities like soccer games on Fridays,
coffee hour on Thursdays, and picnics with the International
Students Association.
My
advice to other international students
There
are many opportunities at UNI. Look for them, ask
about them. There's a lot to take advantage of here.
