Master of Arts

The Master of Arts Program in English is divided into three different emphases: literature, creative writing, and teaching English in the secondary schools (TESS). All three emphases require Introduction to Graduate Study, a core of graduate courses in literature, and the comprehensive examination. The literature emphasis culminates in either a research paper or thesis. The creative writing emphasis includes a minimum of four creative writing workshops and a creative thesis. The TESS emphasis is designed for practicing teachers with an American teaching license and is a part-time program that is comprised of evening and summer courses

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale
  • Official report of TOEFL score (600/100) or IELTS (7.0)

  • Completed graduate assistantship and/or tuition scholarship applications forms should be sent with all other application documents (www.grad.uni.edu/assistantships) by spring semester October 1 and February 1 for the fall semester.
