Athletics

Sports programs in American schools adopt a symbol to represent them. The “panther” is the symbol of the University of Northern and purple and gold are the official school colors. UNI offers 17 Division I athletic programs that consistently compete for the top spot in their conference and in some cases the nation. A few of the factors that make sports special at UNI are:

  • Nationally recognized coaching staffs and strong programs in football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, baseball, softball, wrestling and track.
  • First-rate athletic facilities including the UNI-Dome and the McLeod Arena.
  • Free admission to all sporting events for students.
  • UNI athletes have gone on to star on professional sporting teams and compete in the Olympics.
