It is time to celebrate! Monday, August 25 at 4 pm in Maucker Union Central Ballroom B. Join with other new and returning international students to celebrate the start of a great semester. UNI administrators will be there to welcome everyone. There will be appetizers and drinks and plenty of time to meet new people. Students are encouraged to wear their traditional clothing.
The School of Film and TV of Universidad VERITAS invites all UNI students interested in acting between July 2-9, 2014 in a special student video project, to come on Wednesday June 18, 2014 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. at the UNI Office of International Programs at 113 Maucker Union. Geography is hosting a scientist from the Institute of Geography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Friday, March 14 at 3 pm in ITTC 228. Dr. Natalia Krasnoshtanova is a part of the research team that works on UNI-Russia project under the Artic Social and Environmental Systems Research (ARCSES) Lab.
ISSO is excited to announce the start of a new program for international students. The UNI International Students and Local Community Schools Cultural Exchange program has been created to facilitate interaction between current UNI international students and local community school children.
The International Students and Scholars Office has a newly remodeled office space and is in need of some artistic international design! This semester, ISSO will be sponsoring an international student design competition where UNI international students will have the opportunity to design one of six bookcase shelves to represent individual countries or regions. Important Reminders for New International Students Spring 2014
The International Students & Scholars Office will be open regular hours through Friday, December 20. ISSO will be closed December 23 through January 1. The office will reopen on Thursday, January 2 for regular business hours. If you need emergency assistance during this time, please call UNI Public Safety at 273-4000. You should also call Public Safety after hours and during weekends for emergency assistance. They know how to contact ISSO staff as necessary.

Important reminders for new international students:
- Fill out the New International Student Arrival Form at http://www.uni.edu/internationalservices/prospective-students/new-international-student-arrival-form EVEN if you have arranged for alternate airport pickup. This is the only way we can alert dormitories of your arrival and prepare linen packets and meal cards for you.
Dr. Nadia Korobova, Associate Director for International Students and Scholars, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant to participate in U.S.-Germany International Education Administrators Seminar to be held in Germany and France in October of this year. The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsors the Fulbright Program from an annual appropriation from the U.S. Congress. As a Fulbright grantee, Dr. Korobova will join the ranks of distinguished participants in the Program.
International Students and Scholars Office is temporary located in the in the Biology Research Center, Room 50, due to remodeling. The phone numbers will remain the same.
ISSO has a new International Student Advisor - Ms. Kristen Buldhaupt. She is a first year post secondary education student affairs graduate student, and we are excited for her to join our team. Mr. Matus will give a lecture entitled "Chile: a Road to Development" on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 6 pm to 7 pm at Curris Business Building Room 109 (John Deere Auditorium). The Iowa International Grocery is a new store that has just opened in Cedar Falls. It is located in the Thunder Ridge Mall and features "authentic tastes of international spices, foods and seafood specialties."

I am pleased to report that, effective November 12, 2012, there will be some changes made in the recently renamed International Students and Scholars Office. These changes are being made to improve the services that the University provides to international students and scholars. Dr. Nadia Korobova is being promoted to the position of Associate Director for International Students and Scholars, and head ISSO. Dr. Korobova holds BA from Simferopol State University (Ukraine), MA from University of Northern Iowa, and PhD from Iowa State University.
The International Services Office name has been changed to the International Students and Scholars Office (“ISSO”) to reflect a broader range of constituents it will be serving and to bring the name of the office into line with the name used by like offices at most other universities in the United States. In addition to serving international students, ISSO will be serving visiting scholars and professors and UNI faculty, staff, and students in need of visas for foreign travel on University business or through a University program.
