Mr. Fatih Yildiz, Consul General to the Turkish Consulate in Chicago, will speak on Turkish foreign policy and Turkish-American relations on Thursday March 3 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm in Room 115 of Seerley Hall. Reception in his honor will take place from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm in Great Reading Room of Seerley Hall. Dr. Basheer Nijim was professor and head of the Department of Geography at UNI before retiring because of illness. He came to the United States from Palestine when he was sixteen years old and obtained his post-secondary education in the States, thanks in part to scholarships he received from benefactors. This scholarship is given in his memory and in appreciation for the help he himself received in this country.

On Monday, February 28, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) program will begin helping international students prepare 2010 income tax returns. VITA was established by the Internal Revenue Service to help low income people who may find it difficult to pay for tax preparation services.
