Mikhail Vorotnoy is one of the prominent Russian pianists of his generation. He has appeared with various orchestras as well as in numerous solo, chamber music and organ recitals throughout Russia, USA, Italy, France, Sweden, Poland, Belorussia and Ukraine. Professor Vorotnoy served as a jury member in a number of international competitions and festivals and conducted master-classes in USA, Sweden, Poland, Belorussia and Ukraine. He is also an active promoter of music by modern composers, and performed a number of premiers of compositions by composers from Russia, Great Britain and USA. Three of the works were dedicated to him. Mikhail has done several recordings for TV, radio as well as CD’s. Besides having a busy concert career Prof. Vorotnoy is also active in research. His name is behind several music editions and his articles appear regularly in music magazines in Russia. He appeared as a lecturer in conferences on the subject of performance and pedagogy. In 2008 he received his PhD in Musicology after completing his dissertation on the subject of Performing and Teaching principles of famous Russian piano teacher Samari Savshinski. Mikhail Vorotnoy received his Doctorate with Honors degree and did his post-graduate studies at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. He is currently Professor of Music at the Herzen University in St. Petersburg. Since 2004 he is also the Assistant Dean of the Music College of the Herzen University on concert-creative activity.
