The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) USA and Kyungpook National University (KNU) Korea are pleased to announce an innovative double-degree program for students training to be teachers of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and physical education supported by a $3 million grant from the National Research Foundation of Korea. KNU is ranked among the top universities in the world by both ARWU and Times Higher, and was recently selected (along with only two other Korean universities) for the National Research Foundation of Korea’s new Global Teachers University project. The goal of the twelve year project is to train a new generation of internationally-qualified teachers. The University of Northern Iowa, consistently ranked one of the best comprehensive universities in the United States by U.S. News & World Report and Princeton Review, is a nationally-recognized leader in STEM education.
The double degree program will permit participating students to graduate with a teaching qualification from both KNU and UNI. A minimum of 60 KNU students will study for two years at UNI with their tuition covered by the National Research Foundation grant. UNI students will study for one year at KNU as exchange students in pursuit of KNU degrees, creating the opportunity for additional KNU students to study at UNI. The first KNU GTU students will join UNI in Spring 2015, and UNI students will be welcomed beginning in Spring 2014.
