1) Midway through 2015-16 Core Fulbright Scholar Competition
3) Changes to the Occasional Lecturer Fund (OLF)
The Fulbright Occasional Lecturer Fund (OLF) has been renamed the Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund and has shifted its focus from a scholar-centered program to an institution-centered program, adding a U.S. outreach/promotion function. The OLF enables visiting Fulbright Scholars on assignment in the United States to travel to other U.S. colleges and universities for short visits to interact with students, faculty and staff and with the surrounding community, with an eye toward enhancing the host institution’s internationalization efforts. While OLF-supported campus visits will still promote institutional internationalization, scholar visits will be made specifically to U.S. institutions that traditionally have been underrepresented in the Fulbright Program, including Minority-serving Institutions, small liberal arts colleges, community colleges and institutions in underrepresented geographic locations. Scholar visits will help develop relationships, enhance Fulbright connections with these institutions throughout the United States and help to promote increased awareness, interest and participation in the Fulbright Program. Starting in the 2014-15 academic year, institutions, rather than scholars, will submit OLF applications and invitation letters to CIES for consideration. The list of Fulbright Visiting Scholars posted on the CIES website (http://www.cies.org/fulbright-scholars) each October serves as a roster from which institutions may select scholars they would be interested in hosting. The institutions will be instructed to email CIES’ OLF team at OLF@iie.org in order to request that a scholar to visit their institution. The OLF team will work to put the two parties in touch. Simultaneously, CIES will be in touch with the Visiting Scholars as they arrive in the United States, surveying them to determine their interest in participating in the OLF. While Visiting Fulbright scholars are welcome to visit any U.S. college campus, including those beyond the targeted groups, and may be in contact with such schools directly, such visits would take place outside of the OLF auspices. For more detailed information about the OLF, please visit http://www.cies.org/program/outreach-lecturing-fund. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact the CIES OLF team at OLF@iie.org.
