Route Service Criteria

Shuttle service must do the following:

  1. Provide service from outlying centers of student residence to the Core Service Area (defined as the area bordered by 23rd St. on the north, College St. on the east, 27th St. on the south and extending south to College St., and Minnesota St. on the west.
  2. Provide a frequent connection between MMF and Central Campus for visitors and for all users during inclement weather.
  3. Provide frequent service from outlying commuter lots to the Core Service Area

Vehicle Criteria

Vehicles purchased to provide shuttle service are planned to meet the following criteria:

  1. They should be biofueled to reduce emissions and use of fossil fuels.
  2. The fleet should be flexible, using a mix of larger and smaller vehicles, but all vehicles should be able to maneuver safely in parking lots.
  3. The fleet will be designed and painted distinctively to reflect the spirit of the University.
  4. The fleet will be accessible to disabled persons.

Transitways

In order to provide frequent and safe shuttle service and reduce congestion and auto/pedestrian conflicts, some existing streets will be closed to automobile traffic during peak pedestrian hours, but opened in the evenings and on weekends.  Shuttle and service vehicles will be able to use these transitways at all times.

Planned transitways are:

  1. Ohio and 27th Streets from north of the entrance to the current Gilchrist A Lot on Ohio Street to east of the intersection of 27th and Minnesota Streets.
  2. Dakota and Wisconsin Streets from the intersection of Dakota and Missouri Streets to south of the parking area on Wisconsin Street near McCollum Science Hall.
  3. A new connection between the West Gym Lot and the Latham Field Lot.
