Yury S. Lerner, PhD., is a Professor of Industrial Technology at
the University of Northern Iowa,
Foundry Educational Foundation
Key Professor and a Faculty Adviser to the Metal Casting Center and Student Chapter of American Foundry
Society. His career spans more than 35 years of practical
experience in the areas of Metal Casting Processes, Metallurgy and
Materials Science.
Dr. Lerner obtained BS and MS degrees
in Metallurgical / Metal Casting Engineering from the State Polytechnic
University of Odessa, Ukraine, and earned his Ph.D. in Foundry
Engineering from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Lerner began his career as a
plant metallurgist, progressed to senior metallurgist, and then Head of
Metallurgical Department at R & D Center for New Casting Technique
and Technology. His latest industrial experience includes Technical
Director Position at Weatherly Casting & Machine Co., and R & D
Manager Position at Grede Foundries, Inc.
He has authored and co-authored more
than 180 research articles, published in professional journals and
conference proceedings in the USA, Canada, England, France, Egypt,
Russia, China, Sweden, Turkey, Taiwan and Brazil, and he also holds 43
patents in the Metalcasting, Metallurgy and Materials Science related
fields. Currently, more than 40 of his former undergraduate, graduate
and doctoral students are working in the USA industry.
Just recently, Dr. Lerner
received a very prestigious American Foundry Society/Foundry
Educational Foundation Board of Directors Award.
