Yearly,
IHSMUN holds the Iowa Youth Symposium in the Iowa Capitol. Every
October, hundreds of students attend the conference discussing what
the United States of America's policy should be on a variety of
topics. Topics in the last several years have included terrorism,
environmental degradation, the free use of international waterways,
and the role of the US in Peacekeeping operations. The tone of the
Statehouse, with the classic Georgian Revival architecture, is inspiring
for delegates, teachers, and the Secretariat. |

High
schools from throughout Iowa and several other states come to the
IHS Model UN Spring Conference held at the University of Northern
Iowa. The conference approximates the UN in New York City, but with
an abbreviated schedule and list of topics. While the spring conference
is only two half and one full days, delegates are diligent in producing
quality discussion and ideas until the end. The quality of student
that attends the UN conferences even motivate the Secretariat, formed
of UNI students, to enjoy facilitating hundreds of precocious minds.
