The advisor of a High School Model United Nations team plays an integral role in the Model UN process. The advisor should help students prepare for the conference through research, writing position papers, and organizing thoughts to debate at the conference. The advisor should always make sure that they are guiding the students, and allow the students to do their own work. On this page, the advisor will be able to find information about the administrative aspect of the Spring Conference.

Spring Conference Fees
Delegation Fee $35.00
Delegate Fee $10.00
Placard Fee $5.00
Pins $3.50

Our Secretariat does not make hotel reservations for the delegates. It is up to the Advisor of the high school club to make accomodations for their school. On the Hotels page, you can find a listing of hotels in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Area.

For the 2008 Spring Conference, we have been forced to strictly enforce fire code in all of the committee rooms. For this reason, we must strictly enforce delegation size restrictions. The following is a listing of committees with the maximum number of delegates per committee. If you have more delegates than room on your country, please select another country.

Political and Security 2 Delegates
Social, Humanitarian & Cultural 2 Delegates
ECOSOC 2 Delegates
Disarmament 2 Delegates
Security Council 1 Delegate
Legal 1 1 Delegate
Legal 2 1 Delegate
Legal 3 1 Delegate
International Court of Justice 1 Delegate

In years past, we have had problems with delegates who are out of dress code. Please remind the students that Model UN requires Western Business wear. We also allow students to dress in their country's business wear. That is, if an actual delegate to the UN from your country would wear it to the General Assembly in September of each year, it is OK for our conference. If you have any questions, please contact the Secretary General. Also, an in-depth description of the dress code is available in the Handbook, linked off of this page. Failure by delegates to dress according to our dress code could result in that delegate's voting rights being forfeited.

Here is a checklist of things to do as an Advisor to make sure you have covered everything before Spring Conference:

  • Have you paid your fees?
  • Do you have all your position papers turned in?
  • Have you found a place to stay from April 19-21, 2007?
  • Have you gotten directions to campus from your hotel?
  • Have you reviewed proper dress code with your delegates?
